Hello and welcome to our small spot at Invergordon Golf Club. There have been many changes over the winter and am very pleased to say it's all good news. More later!
Like me im sure your ready for the the season to begin? Dusting down your clubs,cleaning golf shoes all ready to go out on the course.
Myself and Simon are fortunate this year to be assisted by four new level 1 coaches to help with the coaching on Friday night's. This will make the sessions a lot easier to handle,with groups of 3/4 kids,before it was anything up to 6 children. We have two lady members: Val Rhind and Mhairi Matthews with Sean Gunn and Kevin Bain helping us. Gordy Black another level 1 coach is coming back. We will have 7 level 1 coaches and a few helpers making Friday night's sessions a lot easier and more enjoyable for everybody.
OPEN DAY SUNDAY 11TH APRIL ( 13.00 - 15.00 )
Due to the sussessfull day we had on a very windy and cold Sunday afternoon in October last year we held an open day on the 11th of April. Unfortuntly we only had seven people turn up. There was an ad in the Ross - Shire Journal but the ad went in a week early. My fault and its a pity as everybody enjoyed theirselves. Never mind we will be holding another open day near the end of the season.
COACHING EVERY FRIDAY ( 18.00 - 19.30 )
The coaching has been going very well with 21 kids the first week then 24 last Friday. I could'nt of asked for a better response to the season. We have twelve new kids started so hopefully they will be coming along every week? This year is especially exciting for myself and Simon with four new level one coaches that i have mentioned earlier taking part and benefitting the coaching nights. We are changing the costs per session from £1 to £2 the reason being we are now going to put the monies we take in on the coaching night's and put it back out on treats for the kids. We can now pay for equipment,coaches,food and drink. As i mentioned earlier we now have lots of coaches available,these are good times for the club,for us and the kids. At the club they will be taught the grip,pitching,chipping,putting to the full swing. We have practice nets available and putting greens. They will be coached in all the above to a high standard.
When you take your child to the coaching you will be given a regristation form to fill in. This is a standard form name,address etc.
If you are thinking about enrolling your child please beware that we are accepting children from ages 7-17. Friday night's coaching costs £2 and if you want your child to become a junior/juvenile member (12 and under £30 and above that £60. Do not worry if you don't have golfclubs as the golf club supplies all equipment.
To stop the kids from getting to bored we often take them out onto the course. The Friday nights have been very rewarding for the coaches, we have seven level one members and a few helpers giving up their time to assist. The kids get a lot out of it to as we always have lots of fun and there's plenty of laughs along the way. Here at the club we have full bar facilities where you can get hot and cold food, there are also toilets available.
One of our better players is Lyle McAlpine who has been representing the juniors and men's competitions for the last few years. Lyle has a handicap of scratch. A fabulous achievement for a young man who is still only 17. Lyle is having a fantastic year where he has won the junior's and men's northern counties, the Dornoch club championship and only recently won the Invergordon club championship for the first time.
There are more experienced juniors here who have their own golf season and regurarly play for medals,trophys and shields. Some of them have progressed into playing in the mens competitions. If we think your child is ready to take part in the juniors then we ask them to go for their handicaps and this entitles them to full junior privilages.
