2010 JUNIORS SEASON Wow! That's us getting close to another season? So it's time to dust down those golf clubs, clean the golf shoes and get ready for an exciting year of golf. Like me I'm sure you're ready to get out and try your new golf clubs from santa? The coaching will begin in the middle of April. Dates haven't been set yet but I will post them here on the web page and in the Ross- Shire journal. Last year was very enjoyable but at the same time lots of hard work. We struggled at times for coaches and helpers so if you would like to assist in any way to help out we would be most gratefull? What we are looking for is plenty of people to help out and the coaches we have available to work a rota.
As helpers you dont need any golf experience, but look after a small group of kids for a short period of time. With the coaching starting in April all I will say is us coaches are partial to chocolate. Hint! Hint! If young Megan is reading this then I'm wanting two Easter eggs off you young lady for beating me at chipping practice. I haven't forgotten. Grr! If you are thinking about enrolling your child please beware that we are accepting children from ages 7-17. Friday night's coaching costs £1 and if you want your child to become a junior member (£60) the money that they have paid out on friday night will be deducted. Do not worry if you don't have golfclubs as the golf club supplies all equipment. Here at the club we have three practice nets and two putting greens at our disposable.
To stop the kids from getting to bored we often take them out onto the course. The Friday nights have been very rewarding for the coaches, we have two level one members and a few helpers giving up their time to assist. The kids get a lot out of it to as we always have lots of fun and there's plenty of laughs along the way. Here at the club we have full bar facilities where you can get hot and cold food, there are also toilets available.
There are more experienced juniors here who have their own golf season and regurarly play for medals, trophys and shields. Some of them have progressed into playing in the mens competitions. If we think your child is ready to take part in the juniors then we ask them to go for their handicaps and this entitles them to full junior privilages.
One of our more experienced junior members Lyle McAlpine has been having a great few weeks. Lyle won the North Youth Championship Trophy and finished third at Royal Dornoch's Club Championship. Lyle was playing in Dornoch again last saturday (12th September) where he won the Caddies Cup,which he also won the previous year.Lyle on Sunday was playing in Ellon for the under 18's North District Union, and is also the first person here to play in the men's District Union. What we have to remember is Lyle is only 17 and has a fantastic handicap playing of scratch ( 0 )

Latest from the junior coaching on Friday nights. The weather hasn't been very kind to us? With me being away at work for a month at a time, poor Simon Stokes has been looking after 15 kids. Hard work indeed? Friday the 25th of September will officially be the last coaching night of the season, please look out on the web page and the ross-shire journal for updates for next year.
Sunday the 27th of September we had an open day for kids, parents and anybody else who wanted to try golf for the first time. There was over 40 people attending on what was a cold windy Sunday afternoon, and thankfully we had loads of helpers to assist or we would really struggle. Thanks to Simon,Val,Marie,Carol and Sean. John F Kennedy our bar steward for the soup and sandwiches. Everybody seemed to enjoy theirselves and I did hear plenty of laughter. Only one complaint these girlies and their pink golfballs, I dont know very embaressing for us coaches. ( laughs) Thats another year in, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the kids, parents and helpers and hope to see you next year? Kenny
