INVERGORDON GOLF CLUB  2011 COACHING SEASON

                                                     COACHING SESSIONS 2011

Hi folks it has been decided that this year's coaching will come to an end on Friday 26th of August. As a coach and junior conveynor i have very mixed feelings about this year. We were looking at four kids stepping up to the juniors to get handicaps and enter compititions, but sadly they never came back this year. Our coaching classes have been halved this year in comparison to last year. Numbers between 15 - 20 typically on a Friday night, compare this to 30 - 40 last year. Alness, and a few other clubs in the area do not have a junior section or coaching. However it is not all doom and gloom as i think with the lesser numbers the kids have been getting better tuition on a one to one basis. The quality of the golf i have witnessed this year has been brillant. From my point of view it has been great witnessing kids out playing the course during the summer hollidays. We are hoping to hold a fun day shortly, so please look at the web page for details.

                                                     SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The summer hollidays are here again, can you please get your kids out playing golf during the hollidays as much as possible, this will bring their game on much better rather than appearing on the Friday nights. Please take them out when the course is quiet and make use of the netts and practice greens. Perhaps get a few kids organised and long as their accompanied by an adult or suitable guardian get them out on the course. I am looking for kids progressing to the main junior section and going for handicaps.

 Thank's Kenny.

Every Friday at  at 6.30p.m. (please note new time)

Coaching 2011

The cost for this season will be £2 per session.

On Friday the 15th April we held our first coaching night of the season. Despite the cold weather we had 16 kids turn up (4 of them newbies) Lets hope the warmer weather arrives soon!

Here at the club we start the kids off with the basics: putting, grip, chipping, through to full swing. We like to keep them near the clubhouse firstly for safety reasons where we have two putting greens and a practice net. The golf club supplies all equipment.

After a couple of weeks training we use the golf course.

Please make sure your children are appropriately dressed for the weather. If it’s the child’s first time you will be asked to fill in a registration form, this includes any illnesses we need to be aware of and contact telephone numbers etc.

                                                       INVERGORDON ACADEMY PUPILS

On Thursday the 2nd of June we had 32 pupils from Invergordon Academy come to the golf club as part of their fitness week. Here we gave them lessons in putting, driving and hitting irons. Everybody enjoyed theirselves, but there again it's always better than school? My former maths teacher  (MR.MORRIS)was there and i have to say it was role reversal time for me giving him a few lessons.

Easter Schedule

One of the things we like to do here at Invergordon Golf Club is to provide extra competitions for our older children. My aim this year is to introduce kids from Friday's coaching class into the comps to get some experience. When we think they're ready they can go for their handicaps.

On Thursday we played matchplay with some of the tricks (or experience) I've learned over the years. The guys really enjoyed playing this. I have spoken to Gary Lister from Alness Golf Club and we are going to have a bit of fun and arrange a game between the two clubs.

                                                      CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Last Saturday ( 25th june ) we held our junior club championship which was contested between friends and rivals Corey McAlpine and Ryan Semple. Ryan came out the victor 3/2.  A good game with a few birdies and lots of good golf played. At the first i witnessed two brillant par three's both holing great putts. Ryan took advantage at the second hole with a birdie three, a lead he never relinquished.

The two semi finalists were young Steve Gardiner and Jack Austin who was the junior club champion last year.

                                                    ORION JUNIOR OPEN

On Friday 29th of July we held the Orion junior open with 13 entries taking part. They came from as far as field as Royal Dornoch, Inverness, Alness, Strathpheffer and Milnothort. ( Perth )

The weather was cloudy but there was no wind which certainly helped with the scoring. Taking first place in scratch was Royal Dornoch's Neil Macleod and the handicap was won by Innes Macleod from Inverness with the runner up spot by Alness's Connor Hall.

The club is looking at organising another junior open very shortly so please check web page for details.
